September:
Here are a few websites that we have been working on in the computer lab for
you to try:
http://www.on.ec.gc.ca/greatlakeskids/glk-games-e.html
http://www.ecokidsonline.com/pub/homework_help/wildlife/index.cfm
http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/content/animals/kidscorner/kidscorner3.htm
Math:
We will be working on addition and subtraction for the next few weeks. Then
we will start graphing (reading and creating bargraphs, pictographs and
lineplots)
Language:
We are going to continue to work on reading comprehension. The children will
read short stories related to our science unit on "habitats" and will be
asked to answer comprehension questions.
We are also going to be working on a "habitat" story. The students will
learn to write dialog during this experience.
Science:
We are currently studying habitats. The students will be researching a
particular biome and will create an in-class project to demonstrate what they
have learned. We are also doing some 'outdoor' activities to add to the
experience.
Social Science:
We are learning about Canada. We have been reviewing the provinces and
capitals and will look at bodies of water, lakes and rivers. We will also be
looking at maps and practicing various mapping skills.
Homework will consist of nightly reading, extra practice, work not completed
during class time and monthly projects.
If you have any questions please call me at the school.
Sincerely,
Heather Borthwick
