Mrs.Borthwick's class

November/December:

Here are a few websites that we have been working on in the computer lab:

http://www.on.ec.gc.ca/greatlakeskids/glk-games-e.html

http://www.ecokidsonline.com/pub/homework_help/wildlife/index.cfm

http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/content/animals/kidscorner/kidscorner3.htm

Math:
We will be working on linear measurement for the next few weeks. Then
we will start the concepts of perimeter and area. Students that want to work
ahead can practice memorizing the times tables.

Language:
We have now started a video series called "Golden Pennies". Through it, the
children will learn about character development and will write responses based
on the events that occur throughout each episode.

Science:
Once we wrap-up our habitat unit, we will focus on "Rocks and Minerals". The
students will learn how the different types of rocks form and how we can use
their characteristics to identify them. Each student will also collect and
organize a collection of rocks as part of their evaluation.

Social Science:
This month we will continue to look at maps and practice various mapping
skills. We are currently learning about the Great Lakes through various
activities including our "read aloud", Paddle to the Sea. We will then start
learning about the physical regions of Canada.

Homework will consist of nightly reading, extra practice, work not completed
during class time and monthly projects.

Pizza Days are every Thursday.

Due Dates:
Home reading: Oct. 31 and Nov. 28
Animal Diary: Oct. 24

If you have any questions please call me at the school.
Sincerely,
Heather Borthwick
