Practice Makes Permanent
Practicing does not always make perfect but it will always make permanent.
Practicing is a way of learning the music and becoming more familiar with it.
If you make a mistake while practicing do the following:
1. Circle or highlight the area the mistake is in! Most of the time this will
include about one measure at a time.
2. Practice the fingerings without playing your instrument.
3. Practice clapping and counting the rhythms of the highlighted passage.
4. Remember the most ineffective way to practice is to keep repeating
the entire song. The best thing to do is work on just that area that is giving
you trouble. Then go back and try the song again!
Remember to make a schedule of when you are going to practice! The average
practice time should be about twenty minutes to about a half an hour a day.
Music is a collection of lines and dots on paper. It is up to you to make the
music come alive!
Pretend that you are playing for an audience even if it is your dog or cat!
Have fun and enjoy practicing!
