This year your child will be using the SRA Reading Mastery Plus program if
they receive reading instruction / intervention in the Learning Support
classroom. The program contains daily lessons that teach basic decoding and
comprehension skills. Decoding is taught through an explicit phonics method
that stresses letter sounds and blending. Students practice decoding by
reading word lists and stories, both aloud and silently.
Comprehension activities include answering questions about pictures,
following directions, and responding to a variety of questions based on the
stories.
In order to provide the greatest success for your child, I ask that you
practice the daily vocabulary each night and read with your child at least 15
minutes per day.
