Procedures and Grading
Procedures:
- Be on time and bring a writing instrument (10 points per class)
- As you enter the room take the needed assignment and a math sponge problem complete it ( You must show work and / or provide an explanation) (10 points per class)
- You will be assigned computer numbers today. You MUST sit at your assigned computer each time you are in this class. (5 points per class) I reserve the right to change your seat at any time.
- If there are any problems with your computer let me know immediately
- Remain on task throughout class (15 points per class)
- Volume level must be kept low
- Focus on assignment
- School related activities ONLY
- Do not log off early. You will be informed when it is time to log off.
- If you have a question, ask as I walk around the room or raise your hand Please refrain from shouting across the room for me.
- Please have assignments graded as you complete them (100 points each)
- You will be responsible recording the grade in your grade sheet This will be checked at the end and the middle of each quarter. ( 100 points)
- Respect your environment (10 points per class)
- Keep the area around your computer clean
- Return all assignment papers in good condition to there appropriate place
- Ensure the computer equipment is left in good condition
- Any damage will result in points off as well as further disciplinary action.
- The machines are for the students Please take care of them
- Be sure computer has shut down
- You MUST remain in your seat until the bell rings (NO congregating at the front of the room)
- Push your chairs in as you leave
Grading:
- You will receive a report card grade 2 times per year
- Your grade will be based on the point system above which includes
- Up to 50 points per class ( participation etc)
- Up to 100+ points for each assignment complete ( You will be expected to complete 1 assignment every 2 classes.
- If you are behind on assignments you will receive a 0 for the assignment until it is completed. Example on October 14th the 3rd assignment is due if you only have the 1st assignment done you will receive 0’s for assignments 2 & 3 when you complete them the 0’s will be replaced with the appropriate grade
- If you are ahead on the assignments you will automatically receive 10 bonus points on the assignment.(Example: Oct 14th the 3rd assignment is due but you have just finished the 4th. I have looked at your project and determined a grade of 97 you will receive 107 on the assignment for being ahead)
- Plagiarism will result in a 0 for the assignment and a loss of participation pts
- Extra credit
- 1 extra credit report, at least 3 pages double spaced with font no larger than 14, may be done per marking period on the importance of technology, internet security, the history of computers, or another technology related topic that I approve.
- You must use at least 2 sources and must include a reference page
- To receive full credit you must submit the report as well as the reference page
- You can receive up to 200 points for each report
- Plagiarism will result in 5 point deduction on your average
Topics Covered
· Microsoft Office 2003 including:
o Excel: a spreadsheet is a grid that holds information that can be manipulated with formulas and data tools
o PowerPoint: Not just making but also presenting your presentations to a group will be stressed
o Word: basic word processing skills as well as more in depth uses of word such as for web design
o Publisher: for desktop publishing documents as well as web design
o Access: database which stores information which can be searched and used for a variety of purposes such as mail merge ( sending out mass mailings) etc.
· Computer Fair: These projects must use non copyrighted materials and include the categories below. I am looking for students who have some basic knowledge of creating these types of projects and are somewhat proficient at using the software available.
o Animation
o Computer Fair Logo
o Curriculum-Based Web Page Design
o Digital Movie
o Graphic Design
o Information-Based Web Page Design
o Multimedia Presentations
§ PowerPoint
o Text-Based Desktop Publishing
§ Publisher
· Recipe Book, Story, How to Guide, Flyers, Brochure, Menu
· Mathematics
o We will be using time in here to strengthen your mathematics skills with focus on the Pennsylvania assessment anchors
o Scores on the PSSA, foresight, and in your current math classes will determine which mathematics topics will be covered
