GENERAL MUSIC
GENERAL MUSIC (GRADES K5-8)
MATERIALS:
Steinway piano, MacMillan textbooks and grade appropriate songs
(colored notebooks;primary students by rote). Note: All music classes are
held at the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center (LPPAC) on Thursday and
Friday afternoons periods 5-8.
CONTENT:
Students will learn the orchestral family instruments, composers, and
styles of music from different countries. They will also learn how to read
notes from both the treble and bass clefs. Games songs may be sung for the
primary students in addition to multiple verse songs for the middle school
students.
ASSIGNMENT:
Elementary students will sing songs and follow directions such as
right/left and up/down which are used in most game songs. Substitutes may
use any of the songs from the black notebook which they feel comfortable
using. Favorites include "The Farmer in the Dell", Johnny Works With One
Hammer", and "The Hokey Pokey Pokey". The orange notebook contains songs
specifically for seasons and holidays.
Students will vocal test on the Spring Show song - "Scarborough Fair".
Middle School students will watch the DVD about the percussion group "STOMP".
TECHNIQUE:
Mutual cooperation for rehearsals and blending of singing voices.
Mrs. Kostial will be teaching the alternate general music class of each
grade level from Mrs. Greathouse at the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center
on Thursdays and Fridays (11:31 A.M.- 2:22 P.M.); Mrs. Holman will be
teaching instrumental lessons on Mon./Tues./Wed. each week and Mr. Jones
will be directing the chorus on Mondays during the activity period with Mrs.
Kostial accompanying(2:00-2:30 P.M.).
