MONDAY
* Return Graded Papers/Review
* Main Idea/Supporting Details
1. Students will review the passage, "Shoes Overboard", including the
multiple choice and open ended responses (Smartboard).
* Word Study: Root Words #1
1. Introduction to root words.
2. In groups, students are to brainstorm as many words as they can for each
root. After they have created a list of new words, as a group, students will
try to define each root by analyzing the example words they brainstormed.
* HOMEWORK:
1. Read for one half hour and at least 20 pages tonight.
TUESDAY
* Word Study: Root Words #1
1. Students will write two words for each root, define, and give the part of
speech.
* Poetic Elements
1. Students will be introduced to poetic elements (metaphor, simile,
personification, onomatopoeia, imagery, etc.) (Smartboard)
2. Students will read the poem, "When Icicles Hang by the Wall" by William
Shakespeare and begin to discuss.
* Review theme, symbolism, synonyms
* HOMEWORK:
1. Read novel for at least one half hour and 20 pages.
2. Root word definitions and parts of speech
WEDNESDAY
* Word Study: Root Words #1
1. Definitions and parts of speech due (10)
2. Students will write ten sentences, each sentence containing a word for
each root. This assignment is to be completed in class.
3. Quiz tomorrow
* Theme, Symbolism, Synonyms
1. Students will read the passage, "Fish, Flower, Fruit" and answer the
multiple choice and open ended response questions. This assignment is to be
completed in class.
* Shakespeare: Students will read the bio of William Shakespeare, and write
five important facts about his life. This is due tomorrow if not completed
in class.
*HOMEWORK:
1. Read novel for at least one half hour and 20 pages.
2. Study for root word quiz
3. Read Shakespeare article/list five facts
THURSDAY
* Word Study: Root Word #1 Quiz
* Poetry Study: When Icicles Hang by the Wall
1. Review Shakespeare article/five facts
2. Review poem/Finish discussion
* Fish, Flowers, Fruit
1. Review passage and multiple choice answers
2. Students will critique open ended responses on Smartboard
*HOMEWORK:
1. Read novel for at least one half hour and 20 pages.
2. One hour writing due Monday
