PHONICS: Phonics Practice pages 95-96
READING: Sharing Literature "The Little Red Hen" TM226H, Set a purpose: 
Listen to find out how the hen’s friends help out/or not help.  
-Introduce words that share the r-controlled vowels /or/ -our pattern: TM194I-
K (transparency 57),Practice Book page 67 and Ex. Support page 67.
-Big Book of Rhymes- “Fourteen Minutes” pages 12-13
-Read decodable book "Fifty-four Chestnut Court" highlight our words. 
HOMEWORK:  "Fifty-four Chestnut Court" read, get signed, and return. 
          
 
TUESDAY:  November 10, 2009
PHONICS:  Phonics Practice pages 97-98.
READING:  Sharing literature read poem "Kitchen, Stove, Refrigerator, Broom, 
Table" Discuss why the writer makes each kitchen object seem like a person 
TM226P.
-Review r-controlled vowels /or/ -our pattern TM226Q-R, Practice page 69.
-Focus Skill-Synonyms TM227A(transparency 61)
-Focus Strategy-making inferences to help them understand what they have read 
TM227B.
-Introduce the vocabulary for "Hedgehog Bakes a Cake"(batter, buttery, 
perfect, recipe, smeared, yellow cake).
-High Frequency Words (bit, cake open, smell, thank). 
-In a large group, read Vocabulary Power pages 226-227 (TM226U) (transparency 
60). 
-Copy words and meanings into vocabulary journal, give list for home study.
-Read "Hedgehog Bakes a Cake" silently and aloud pages 228-245. 
Do the guided comprehension and Think/Respond questions.
-Retelling-Use a problem-solution chart(transparency 62)
-Read and locate vocabulary words in "To Many Cupcakes” from "Sounds of 
Sunshine".
HOMEWORK:  Read and study "To Many Cupcakes".
           Study for vocabulary quiz, Thursday.

-Review vocabulary and high frequency words TM247I.
-Reread for Fluency "Hedgehog Bakes a Cake" with a partner or in small groups.
-Take AR test on "Hedgehog Bakes a Cake".  Record test score for 
comprehension grade.
Reading Across the Texts-“Hedgehog’s Yellow Cake” pages 248-249(Reading and 
understanding information in a recipe).        
-Making Connections-Compare and Contrast page 
225 in anthology.
-Complete the story strips for "Hedgehog Bakes a Cake" T96.
-Review r-controlled vowels /or/ -our pattern -Extra Support page 69.
-Review assessment concepts orally, teacher uses A33-36 of Practice.

Practice page 74. 
-Comprehension test on "Hedgehog Bakes a Cake" A33-36 of Practice Book.
Review common abbreviations and Practice Book page 75.
-Reinforce skills and strategies by using Books for All Learners. Students 
may do self-selected reading from the classroom library.
HOMEWORK: "Four-Course Dinner" read, get signed, return Monday.
