Discuss TM282-283A.-Sharing Literature
-"Tops and Bottoms" TM284H, Set a purpose: Listen to find out what the title 
of the story refers to.  
-Introduce r-Controlled Vowels: /ir/ ear, eer TM284I-J (Transparency 71).
-Apply Phonics- Practice Book page 85 and Ex. Support page 85.
-Big Book of Rhymes- Read p. 16-17 "Seasons".
-Sharing literature read poem "Johnny Appleseed".  Set a purpose for 
listening prior to reading TM284P.-Review r-Controlled Vowels: /ir/ ear, eer 
TM284Q-R, Practice page 87.
-Focus Skill-Details TM285A(transparency 75).
-Focus Strategy-Create Mental Images TM285B.-Introduce the vocabulary 
for "Johnny Appleseed"(frontier, nearby, orchard, survive, tame, wild).-High 
Frequency Words (bag, call, country, rain, sleep). 
-In a large group, read Vocabulary Power pages 284-285 (transparency 74). 
-Copy words and meanings into vocabulary journal, give list for home study.
-Read "Johnny Appleseed" silently and aloud pages 286-305. 
-Do the guided comprehension and Think/Respond questions.
-Retelling-Use a story map TM305A(transparency 76)
HOMEWORK:  Study for vocabulary quiz.  Extra Support page 87 and 
88.

READING:  Review "Tops & Bottoms" (listen and think about the lesson that 
the story teaches)TM305E. 
-Review vocabulary and high frequency words TM305I.
-Complete the story strips for "Johnny Appleseed" T130.
-Vocabulary quiz page 88 of Practice Book. 
-Reread for Fluency "Johnny Appleseed" with a partner or in small 
groups.Reading Across the Texts
-The Seed pages 306-307(Reading a poem).  
-Making Connections-Compare and Contrast page 308 in anthology.
-Read and highlight vocabulary words in "Anna's Apple Doll" from "Sounds of 
Sunshine".
HOMEWORK:  Read, get signed, and return "Anna's Apple Doll".               

THURSDAY:  December 4, 2008 
PHONICS:  Phonics Practice Book pages 133-134.  
-Review Vocabulary and High-Frequency Words.
-Take an oral reading grade on"Anna's Apple Doll".
-Take AR test on " Anna's Apple Doll ".  Record test score. 
-Reread "Johnny Appleseed".-Review assessment concepts orally, teacher uses 
A41-44 of Practice.
-Complete Test Prep-and words with eer/ear- Anthology pages 310-311 and 
Practice Book page 90. 
-Focus Skill-Details TM225C and Practice page 91. 
HOMEWORK:  Study for comprehension test on "Johnny Appleseed". Read "Johnny 
Appleseed" in the anthology-Send anthology home. Parents sign planner to 
verify being read.Extra Support pages 91-Details.(Do not return). 

FRIDAY:  December 5, 2008
PHONICS:  Phonics Practice Book pages 135-136.         
READING:   Students will  listen to the audiotext version of " Johnny 
Appleseed"or they may read silently.
-Students will take an AR test on  "Johnny Appleseed"-record test score.
-Students will take a comprehension test on "Johnny Appleseed" A41-44in 
Practice Book.
-Review phonograms -ar, -ar, -ar TM311K and do Practice Book and Extra 
Support page 92.
-Reinforce skills and strategies by using Books for All Learners. Students 
may do self-selected reading from the classroom library.HOMEWORK: "Garlic 
Garden" read, get signed, return Monday
