Following are some tips that your student can use to become a great student:
1. Set goals for what you want to accomplish in class and be specific.
Don't just say "I want to do better in Math." Instead say, "I want
to get a 90% in math."
Write the goals down in your agenda. This is one of the most import-
ant steps in turning a goal from a dream to a reality. Look at your
goal on a daily basis.
Figure out what you will need to do to accomplish your goal. List
the steps you will take to get there.
2. Plan your time. Use your agenda to keep track of your assignments
and when you will do them.
3. Study everyday. Athletes work out everyday, musicians practice
everyday, and good students study everyday. Even if you don't have
an assignment you can take a few minutes to review vocabulary words
or math facts. Or look at your agenda and get a head start on an
upcoming assignment.
4. Take notes in class. Teachers almost always tell you what is likely
to be on the test, so if you take notes you'll know what to study.
Review your notes as soon after class as possible and review them
regularly. 10 or 15 minutes every day will help you learn a lot more
than trying to cram for 2 hours the night before the exam.
5. Make sure you have the tools you need. A painter wouldn't show up to
paint a house without ladders, brushes, rollers, and other tools of
trade. Don't show up to class without your pencils, books, notebook,
and whatever other tools you need to get the job done.
