Daily Reflections

Monday of the Twenty-Eighth Week in Ordinary Time

For freedom Christ set us free; so stand form and do not submit to slavery again.” (Galatians 4: 22-5:1)

We often hear ‘freedom to choose,’ referring to a woman’s alleged right to choose to abort an unwanted child. However ‘freedom to choose’ in a Catholic context, is a contradiction in terms.

Our human dignity comes from the fact that God creates us.  We share in His unchangeable and natural inclination for life. For a human being to choose death, enslaves the person in sin; this person is not free.

Freedom emanates in our life in God.  God, not man, is Lord of life. If we do not surrender to His Will, we will be doomed to lose it. God has much better hopes for us in this world and in the next.
