February is here! We will continue to learn more and at a faster pace! We
are half way to first grade!
We had great fun during Catholic Schools Week. We our 100 Day of School
Celebration with a special snack and activities. Come see our 100 items art
projects hanging in our hallway. We loved celebrating Groundhog Day! The
Crazy Olympics was AWESOME! Friday was an All School Mass and we were
fantastic! I am so proud of the kids.
Math class has us adding numbers up to the sum of 10. Please practice at
home with simple household objects or toys or snack foods. Please practice
printing numbers correctly too! We will start subtraction this week!
Reading class has kindergarten practicing the letters Nn, Aa, Dd, Ss, Mm, Ii,
Tt, Cc, Oo, Ff, & Rr and the sounds they make. We will look and listen for
those sounds at the begin, middle, and end of words. We will also learn more
sight words. These are words we know by just looking at them and not sounding
out. Please keep them in your child's Blue Homework Folder so to practice
reading them on Homework days. Ask your kindergartener about our new Nature
stories, Allie's A-Z Adventure, The Apple Pie Tree, and Nature Spy!
We are in full swing with our weekly spelling words! Please see the Homework
Section of this Web page for specifics.
In Religion, we are learning about Jesus as a man. He was a teacher and a
helper. Jesus wants us to LOVE everyone. We can show love with the words we
say and the things we do. We are trying to be like Jesus in everything we
do! We are also learning about PRAYER. We can pray anywhere, at any time
and about anything.

We LOVE our Smartboard!! We will go on it several times a week. Ask your
child about some of the things we do on it. Go to my LINKS section of this

it is your child's turn.

Practice the ANGEL Way! St. Philip School encourages our children to follow
The A.N.G.E.L. Way (Acquiring Natural Goodness in Everyday Life). Our
children will get to know Jesus and our Catholic Faith. We will learn
prayers, songs, and participate in many activities that will make us feel
closer to God.
Our third virtue is self discipline. Kindergarteners can learn to do this by
remembering the jobs that they have to do and doing them. They need to know
that school is a serious time and they need to focus and listen in order to
learn. There are other times to be silly and funny. They need to use self
discipline when dealing with a peer that has a differnt idea than they do.
This is a great virtue to help our little ones learn!
