Challenge of the Week

TO MY STUDENTS: When you visit this webpage, email me with your solution
and, if you are correct, I'll give you a Bonus Point. (Bonus Points are a
way to improve your grade.) New Challenge of the Week questions are usually
posted on Monday and I'll accept solutions through Thursday. I'll post the
correct solution the following weekend.

CHALLENGE OF THE WEEK: November 9-13
A math teacher offers to assign 1 second of homework the 1st week of school,
2 seconds of homework the 2nd week of school, 4 seconds of homework the 3rd
week of school, and so on. If this pattern of doubling continues the entire
36-week year, how many minutes of homework would you have the last week of
school?

CHALLENGE OF THE WEEK: November 2 - 6
Inside each set of the following words there are a pair of smaller words. By
putting '&' between them you'll make a familiar phrase. For example,

2. Thermometer/Apoplexy
3. Delaware/Bordering
4. Surprised/Trashiness
5. Throughout/Stumblebum

SOLUTION:
1. rock and roll 2. mom and pop 3. law and order
       4. rise and shine 5. rough and tumble
