M T I Description

This course focuses on the development of your ability to understand and apply mathematics to solve
realistic, workplace problems. In addition, we will practice standardized test questions to help prepare
you for future math requirements. We will use a variety of methods to cover the material such as lecture,
cooperative groups, activities, discovery and technology.

Assessment is as follows:

•	Major Grades (50%)
o	Unit tests – announced 2 to 3 days in advance; study guide provided
o	Projects – individual and group
•	Homework (25%)
          o	Assigned almost daily
o	Checked every week to 10 days
•	Quizzes (25%)
          o	Short - 1 to 2 concepts
          o	Usually unannounced
•	Bonus Points (optional)
          o	Challenge of the Week
          o	Attitude and participation
o Up to 15 points added to test grade(s) per nine weeks

Math can be a very challenging subject and it is important to keep up and study on a daily basis. Your
routine should be: keep an organized notebook, take great notes in class, study notes and handouts and
then complete the homework assignment. Ask questions and make corrections the next day in class.
With this routine, you should never have to ‘cram’ for hours the night before a test. Let me know if you
need extra help. I am available after school 1 to 2 days a week.
