Will my child have homework every night?
Your child will have homework every night with the exception of Friday. Also, there might be
projects that will need to be worked on during the weekend.
What can I do at home with my child to help him/her with schoolwork?
You can practice math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, & division) with your child. Read
with your child every night! You need to check their notebook and agenda book every night for
assignments! Also, your child's notebook needs to be signed daily!
Set a positive example for your child!
Does my child have to read every night?
I ask that all of my students read for at least 30 minutes outside of school everyday! Your child will
have an A.R. goal that should be met each week. Also, your child's reading homework log ( a log of
all of the books that your child reads at home) must be initialed by you each week. To become a
better reader, you must READ!
How will I know what is being covered in class?
I will be sending home weekly newsletters each Monday that will inform you of what we are covering
that week in school and any important dates to remember for due dates of assignments or changes
in the school schedule (no school, half days, special lunches, etc.)
How will I know how my child is doing academically?
I send home progress papers on a weekly basis (usually on Monday's) that will keep you up to
date as to how your child is doing. You will sign off on the progress papers folder and send back
both the signed folder and the graded papers each week.
Your child will bring home the mid-nine weeks progress report home to be signed during each
grading period.
Also, if there is a major concern, I will be calling you to let you know.
Where are places that I can take my child outside of school?
These are great place to take your child: the public library, Adventure Science Museum, Cheekwood,
etc. If you would like other ideas, check the Nashville Parent magazine or the local newspaper.
How can I help my child get along better with other children?
I am a firm believer in having your child become active and involved in their community. Join your
child up for sports, dance, music lessons, karate, along with other activities that you might choose.
Let your child have friends over so that they can have 1-on-1 time/interaction with their friends!
What should I do if I think that my child is having some problems?
Whether the problems are academic or emotionally, I would like for the parent to inform me about
the concern they have about their child. We could set up a time to meet so that we can discuss
what's happening with your child. Depending on the circumstances, we might be able to come up
with a game plan to resolve the problems or find other ways to deal with what is going on in your
child's life (names for counseling, support groups, etc...)
How should I reward my child for good behavior &r good grades??
Give praise and special privileges for good actions. You don't have to spend lots of money on your
child to let them know that you are proud of them, Examples are: go for a walk, go to the park,
spend quality time with your child, have a scoop of ice cream, etc....)
How can I help out with my child's class?
Here's some ideas:
*Come and read to our class as often as you would like! (Just set up a time with me beforehand,
please!)
*Come to class and help out during apecial activities.
*Bring in healthy snacks for the class.
*Arrive unannounced for lunch and surprise your child (they love for you to do this!)
What are appropriate 3rd grade household responsibilities?
Your child should be able to: clean their room, make up their bed, wash dishes, set the kitchen
table, take out the trash, dust, take care of the family pet (feed & water) & clean up after themselves.
Just some ideas, don't make them do it all!
