About The Teacher

I am so excited about having your child in my class this year! I was raised in the Middle Tennessee
area. I lived in Springfield until 1985 and then we moved to Dickson. I graduated from Belmont
University in 1997. While in school, I was a nanny/baby-sitter for a few families and in the summers
I worked as a camp counselor and then became a camp director at Camp Whippoorwill. I completed
my student teaching in Kindergarten at Julia Green Elementary and my Fifth Grade placement at
Glencliff Elementary. After student teaching, I substituted for a semester and let me say that was an
experience! In 1998, I held a Fourth Grade position here at Norman Binkley. In 1999, I went down to
Third Grade where I stayed for two years (Fall 1999-Spring 2001.) Then for four years (Fall 2001-
Spring 2005) I taught Fourth Grade. This will be my fifth year back in the Third Grade (Fall 2005-
continuing.) This is my 12th year of teaching along with being my 12th year at BInkley! In May
2001, I began working on my Masters in Curriculum & Instruction at Tennessee State University and I
completed my Masters Degree in August 2002. I completed my Masters Plus 30 in May 2008, after
completing courses at Lipscomb, MTSU, and Tennessee State University,
Learning is a never ending process!
I am looking forward to another great year at Norman Binkley. I will do my best to meet your
child’s needs, working with both their strengths and weaknesses. I will do my best in helping your
child to develop and grow into the strong academic, emotional, and social person they they can be. I
believe that all children can reach their potential if they try and are willing to do their best, along
with having a strong support system. You can help your child reach all of their goals by making sure
that they get a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast so that they come to school ready to do
their best!

Mission For The Class

I want my students to feel as though they are all equal. I work very hard to build a strong
community within my classroom from day one. I believe that if you work a bit harder at the
beginning of the year on community building, you don't have to deal with so many problems during
the school year. I strive for my students to grow and enjoy learning. I work harder in trying to
motivate/encourage all students in Reading and Math. I strive for all of my students to excel during
the school year and be totally prepared for their upcoming year in school. I want my students to feel
comfortable within our classroom and for them to realize that they have people around them who
care for and support them. I work hard to try to meet the individual needs of each child:
academically, emotionally, and socially. My biggest goal is for each child to have a successful year
both academically and emotionally!
