Homework in my room is classwork that has not been completed. If you are
concerned about the amount of work that is coming home with your child,
please ask them how they are spending their class time. I allow sufficient
time in class to complete most, if not all, of the work. We have a CORE time
of 50 minutes built into our daily schedule. This time is used for the
students to work on classwork/homework and get one on one help from their
teachers on any problems that they may be having with any of the work. If
your child is not using his or her class time wisely, they will probably have
a good bit of work to complete at home. In addition to any written work,
your child should study science and social studies for 20 minutes. They
should also be reading AR for 30 minutes nightly.
Please check your child's planner nightly to find out the homework for that
night. Please be sure to inital the planner for that day ONLY if your child
has completed ALL of the assignments. This way I will know if it is not
signed, you know that your child did not complete all of their homework.
Even if your child finished the work in class, they should still be bringing
it home for you to see what we are working on and to see that it is complete.
If your child does not have their homework, they will have consequences to
help them understand the importance of completing their work and turning it
in on time. Any missed assignments will be recorded as zeros in my grade
book until turned in. A loss of 10 points will result daily.
Spelling packets are the exception to this. They are due Friday morning by
8:00 A.M. If it is not turned in, it will be a zero. The students are given
sufficient class time each week to complete the spelling packet. Points will
be lost if it is incomplete. Any late work turned in will result in a loss
of 10 points per day. Work not turned in by the last day of the nine weeks
will stay a zero in my grade book. After your child has missed 3 assignments
in a week, they will be required to go to study hall on Wednesday instead of
their specials. If it does not get completed during Wednesday study hall,
they will have the opportunity to finish it in Friday study hall. After a
child has spent 3 Wednesdays in study hall, they will be required to attend
after school detention (usually held on Tuesday).
