About Ms. Floyd

Meet Ms. Floyd

Name: Deidra Floyd
School: Fern Bluff Elementary
Class: 2nd Grade
Phone: 428-2181

I graduated from Baylor University in 2001 with a B.S. in Education.  While at Baylor, I was a member of the Golden Wave Marching Band and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.  I even had the privilege of serving as Bruiser, the Baylor mascot, for one year!
I began my teaching career at Lorena Oates Elementary in my hometown of Orange, Texas where I taught for 1 and a half years.  I  am entering my 10th year of teaching with the 2011-2012 school year.  I've been at Fern Bluff for 8 years...this year will be my 9th.  WOW-time flies when you're having fun!
The past two and a half years have been filled with many new challenges for me.  In February of 2009, I experienced a stroke.  I was so blessed to be surrounded by the best friends and family here at Fern Bluff who helped to make my recovery go smoothly.  In June of 2009, I became a candidate for my National Board Certification.  I also adopted my best bud Shorty (a black Pug) from the DFW Pug Rescue in December of 2009. I spent this past summer working in Chicago on  project called Grinding New Lenses.  As a representative of the National Writing project, I worked on developing modules for teachers to use in their classrooms to incorporate the core subjects with technology.  I can't wait to playtest the materials with my kids!
I look forward to growing and learning with you during the upcoming school year!
