What happens when my child is absent?

When your child is absent for any reason, they must return with a note
explaining why they were absent. That goes directly to the office. In
class, we will have collected as much work for them as possible and
leave it on their desk. The student is responsible for getting a
classmate's organizer to write down all of the missed assignments
from when they were gone. Most are self-explanatory. When that is
taken care of, they may ask the teacher for further explanation,
directions, or specifics. For every day they were absent, they have that
same amount of time to get their makeup work turned in. It is the child's
responsibility to get all work turned in to the teacher.

What is a late slip?

A late slip is given when an assignment is not turned in when due. This
happens even if the assignment was truly done, but left at home. The
assignment is still not at school and turned in. A late slip is written out
which shows the date, class or subject, assignment, and when it is due.
The grade automatically drops to an 89 and the SIGNED late slip and
assignment must be returned the following day. "Late Work" is usually
written on the assignment as a reminder when it goes home in Friday
folders.

Why are some things starred in my child's organizer?

An assignment or note in your child's organizer is starred if it is
homework. This allows them the opportunity to make sure and pack up
the materials needed. Some students even choose to highlight over the
assignment as well. My feeling is they can do whatever it takes to
remember. They also have a class list of each student and their phone
numbers in their homeroom. In the event that they do get home and
cannot remember something specifically, they have another resource to
use. The phone list is for the students to use and not for parents to be
calling to get the assigments.

Will you be posting assignments on this web page?

No assignments will be posted on this web page unless it is a
long-term assignment and you need to see the dates. Your student has
an organizer that will have all of the homework assignments listed. Also,
each child has been given a class list of names and numbers that they
may use in case they forget a part of an assignment.

Do you send progress reports home with every child?

Yes and no. Your child brings home a "weekly" progress report with
their Tuesday folders. No, I do not send home individual progress
reports unless a child is failing or very close to failing. On their papers,
if you are seeing quite a few papers that are having to be redone, that is
an indication that your child is not getting a concept and needs more
help. Those "redone" papers add up and help to lower a child's grade.

Do you offer tutorials?

I will hold tutorials in my classroom on Monday and Thursday mornings
before school from 7:35- 8:10 a.m. Tutorials are held on an individual
basis and you will be contacted by the teacher if your child is being
asked to attend. Tutorial sessions will focus on math and reading skills
and review/reinforcement.

May I check my child's grades on-line?

Your child's grades will not be online to check. Grades online begin in
the Sixth Grade in our district. You will have an accurate picture of how
your child is doing weekly with the work coming home in their Tuesday
folders. Please feel free to email me or call me with any questions or
concerns that you may have.
