ZOO FIELD TRIP

All of the second graders in C Pod visited the Woodland Park Zoo in April, as a part of our Science curriculum. We participated in the "Forest Explorers" program. We prepared for our Zoo visit by first learning about the differences and similarities of the temperate rainforest in Washington State, and the tropical rainforest in Costa Rica.

When we arrived at the Zoo, the Zoo staff put on an assembly for us that compared and contrasted the tropical and temperate rainforests, using the students as the different layers of the rainforests (top photo below). We were then taken on a guided tour of the tropical and temperate rainforest exhibits at the Zoo. The tropical rainforest exhibit is indoors, and it was about 80+ degrees inside!

The day after our field trip, we wrote giant-sized postcards to a friend or family member, telling them all about our Zoo adventure! (See these photos below the field trip photos.)
